The annual Ethel Precht HOPE Breast Cancer 3k Walk was held Saturday morning at the Lake Charles Civic Center. Since 2004, the walk has grown from several hundred attendees to several thousand breast cancer supporters and survivors. In 2008, Ethel Precht started the Ethel Precht HOPE Breast Cancer Foundation which is a 501C (3) non profit organization. The Foundation awards a scholarship to s McNeese State University or Sowela Technical College student who is either a breast cancer survivor or has a member of their immediate family that is a breast cancer survivor. Precht, a breast cancer survivor for over 25 years, also started a support group for breast cancer survivors that meets on a monthly basis.
