Bird with hat

Donna Price / American Press
A Lake Charles live oak tree off Sale Road has produced a growth that resembles a bird wearing a hat. The growth is a deformity known as a gall. Many are caused by a tiny wasp. Galls form because of the treeÕs response to the insectÕs egg laying.
