The MLK, Jr. Festival honors the courageous effort and sacrifices of Martin Luther King, Jr.

The annual Memorial Breakfast, held at Trinity Baptist Church, 1800 Country Club Rd, Lake Charles, LA. Friday January 17th, at 7:30 am will honor several deserving and outstanding individuals in the community, a renowned guest speaker, six local High School Choirs in concert together: Barbe, DeRidder, LaGrange, St. Louis, Sulphur, and Washington Marion, accompanied by the Trinity Baptist Church Orchestra & area choir directors. First place winners from each division of the essay contest reading their essay live, presentation of the MLK Unsung Hero Awards, along with presentations to this year's sponsors are all highlights of the morning's affair. This event is open to the public and beginning at 9:00am will be televised live on KPLC TV.

And by popular demand A highlight to this year's festival will be the 1st annual Glitz, Glamour & Stars Gala concluding Friday nights celebration, Friday January 17th at 7:00 pm, held at the beautiful Historic Calcasieu Marine National Bank, featuring local and national stars including the very beautiful and talented #1 chart busting recording artist Chante Moore.

On Sunday January 19th at 6:00 pm performers from all over Louisiana will come together for the Gospel Extravaganza held at Throne of Grace Fellowship located at 2401 6th Street, Lake Charles, La. Admission is free and open to the public.

The celebration continues on Monday, January 20th, with the Annual Parade rolling through the streets of Lake Charles at 11:00 am with the lineup beginning at the Lake Charles Civic Center at 8:30 am. On Tuesday, January 21st, the stage play "Hell Hath No Fury Like A Scorned Woman", will be held at the Lake Charles Civic Center Rosa Heart Theater. Don't miss the Family Day celebration where you can enjoy live, local and national entertainers with the best in Zydeco, R&B, Blues and Southern Soul music. The big Celebrity Gumbo Cook-Off Contest as well as the exhibition by hundreds of local vendors featuring arts, crafts, Creole and Cajun food from all over which promises to be a treat for all ages.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Festival is celebrating its 30th year anniversary and has been chosen as a Top 20 Event by the Southeast Tourism Society for the first quarter of 2014.
